Port Augusta, Australia, 26 February 2026 — AMPYR Australia is investing $42,000 directly into Port Augusta’s future, supporting 10 local community organisations through its Northern Battery Community Fund. This is the first investment of the Northern Battery community benefits fund.

The funding backs grassroots projects spanning environmental education, cultural heritage, youth sport and vital community infrastructure, ensuring the benefits of the Northern Battery are felt well beyond construction.

Among the recipients, the Friends of the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden received $5,000 to deliver the 2026 Port Augusta Desert Pea Festival, a celebration of native flora and environmental resilience.

“This event is designed to build greater community understanding around climate change, environmental health and the practical steps people can take in their own backyards,” said Brian Reichelt, Friends of the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden Vice President.

“We want to empower our community with knowledge, not just about the challenges of climate change, but about the real, achievable solutions available to us in arid regions.

“Thanks to AMPYR’s generous support, we can help inspire greater stewardship of our unique arid landscapes.”

AMPYR Project Lead Nicholas Wensley said the response to the fund demonstrated Port Augusta’s community spirit.

“We received an outstanding range of applications and are proud to support projects that will deliver genuine, lasting benefits,” Mr Wensley said.

“From environmental stewardship and cultural celebration to strengthening local sporting clubs, this funding ensures we are investing directly into communities closest to our project.

“The Northern Battery is about more than strengthening South Australia’s energy system. It’s about being a long-term partner to Port Augusta, and by backing local initiatives that bring people together, develop skills and celebrate community pride, we’re supporting community priorities while we build critical energy infrastructure.”
