AMPYR is developing the Wellington Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Central West NSW, designed to store renewable energy for use during peak times. With planning and grid connection approvals already secured, AMPYR aims to start construction in 2025 for initial energisation in 2026.

AMPYR will continue engaging with neighbours, the wider community and local Aboriginal groups as the development progresses to construction.

The project will support extra wind and solar capacity in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).

The project is being developed in two stages.

The project is located on Wiradjuri Country three kilometres north east of the town of Wellington.

The project will connect to the Wellington substation, which is a key point on TransGrid’s 330kV transmission network, connecting renewable energy resources from the Central-West Orana REZ to electricity consumers across NSW.
